What types of tools do you sharpen?

We sharpen a wide range of tools including kitchen knives, professional chef knives, clippers, scissors and shears, garden tools, mower blades, chisels, planer blades, and various farm and workshop tools. If it has an edge and you rely on it to work properly, chances are we can sharpen it, just ask.

How often should I have my tools sharpened?

That depends on how often and how hard they’re used. Professionals may need sharpening regularly, while home users may only need it a few times a year. If your tool is slipping, tearing, or requiring extra force, it’s time.

Is sharpening safer than buying new tools?

Sharp tools are safer tools. Dull blades require more force and are more likely to slip, increasing the risk of injury. Professional sharpening restores control and accuracy, and once we sharpen your tools, they’re often sharper than when they left the factory - making them safer and more reliable for trade, kitchen, and garden work.

Do you offer advice on tool care?

Yes. We’re always happy to share practical advice on storage, use, and basic maintenance to help your edge last longer between sharpenings.

How sharp is sharp?

Sharp means fit for purpose. A chef’s knife, a pair of hairdressing scissors, and a mower blade all require different edges. Our goal isn’t novelty sharpness, it’s an edge that cuts cleanly, safely, and lasts in real working conditions.

Can you fixed chipped or damaged blades?

Minor chips, rolls, and edge damage can often be repaired. We’ll assess each blade honestly and let you know what’s possible before any work is done. If a tool isn’t worth sharpening, we’ll tell you.

How do I know if my scissors can be sharpened?

Most scissors can be sharpened, but the easiest way to check is by looking at the centre where the blades pivot. If your scissors have a screw holding the blades
together, they’re very likely sharpenable. If they have a rivet instead, it might still be possible, but it can be trickier.

Tip: Even if your scissors have a rivet, bring them in and we can assess them for you.

Do you use machines or hand sharpening?

We use a combination of precision equipment and hands-on techniques, chosen to suit each tool. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all process. Angles, pressure, and finish are matched to the blade’s purpose and steel type to restore performance without unnecessary wear.

Steel clipper blades are sharpened using a precision automated clipper blade sharpening system.

Will sharpening shorten the life of my tools?

Done properly, sharpening extends the life of your tools. We remove only the material required to restore the edge, avoiding aggressive grinding that weakens blades.
Longevity is always prioritised.

How do I get started?

Get in touch to arrange a drop-off or discuss your tools. We’ll assess them honestly and promptly return them ready to work.

Why choose NRBS over another service?

Because we sharpen like people who use their tools for real work. With decades of
trade experience behind every edge, we focus on performance, safety, and
longevity - not speed or shortcuts.

How do I make payment?

Payment is simple and flexible. Once your tools are sharpened and ready for collection or return, we’ll be in contact and then email you an invoice with all the details. Payment can be made via bank transfer or cash, and no upfront payment is required - you only pay once the job is complete.
