Built from the land, sharpened for the community

Northern Rivers Blade Sharpening (NRBS) is a local blade sharpening service in the Northern Rivers, built from a simple, practical decision at Ataraxis Farms - to diversify the farm in a way that aligned with our land, our skills, and our community.

Like many primary producers, we understand that farming doesn’t stop when the weather turns bad - but productivity often does. NRBS was created to reduce downtime during wet and unpredictable periods, while building a reliable, hands-on service that supports people across the region all year round.

Sharpening was a natural fit. It is essential, practical, and deeply connected to everyday work across the Northern Rivers - from farms and kitchens to salons, workshops, and backyards.

At the heart of NRBS is Chris, who brings over 30 years of carpentry trade experience and a lifetime of working with sharp tools. That background shapes everything we do - every knife, pair of scissors, and set of clippers is sharpened with care, precision, and an understanding of real-world use.

What began as a farm diversification project has grown into a trusted Northern Rivers blade sharpening service, grounded in old-school values: do the job properly, respect the tools, and look after the people who rely on them.

Northern Rivers Blade Sharpening has proudly been operating since July 2025.

At the heart of Northern Rivers Blade Sharpening is Chris, a tradesman with over 30 years of building and carpentry experience. His career has been built around the use of sharp, reliable tools, where precision, safety, efficiency, and workmanship all depend on a properly maintained edge.

Across decades in the trade, Chris regularly sharpened his own knives, chisels, and cutting tools, understanding first-hand that a dull or poorly sharpened blade leads to wasted time, reduced accuracy, and unnecessary material loss. This practical experience has shaped a deep respect for tool maintenance and the critical role professional blade sharpening plays in quality work.

Today, that same trade knowledge is applied at NRBS, providing knife, scissor and clipper sharpening services across the Northern Rivers, with a focus on precision, consistency, and real-world performance.

Northern Rivers Blade Sharpening (NRBS) was created to do more than provide a service — it allows us to strengthen the resilience of our farm-based business at Ataraxis Farms while supporting the wider Northern Rivers community. By applying decades of trade experience in carpentry and tool use, we deliver a practical, reliable blade sharpening service for knives, scissors, clippers, and trade tools.

NRBS also helps create meaningful local work during weather-driven downtime, when farming activity slows but the need for skilled, hands-on work remains. This ensures continuity, stability, and purpose throughout the year, regardless of seasonal conditions.

We are committed to supporting our community with dependable, affordable blade sharpening across the Northern Rivers, helping keep essential tools performing at their best — from kitchens and salons to farms, workshops, and home gardens.

Most importantly, every blade we sharpen helps keep local work moving. In a region shaped by weather and seasonality, sharp tools mean productivity continues — even when conditions make other work impossible.
